Frequently asked questions.
Quick answers for installation, permissions, commands and the issues you are most likely to encounter.
Is Ovels free to use?+
Yes. The core feature set — including moderation, automod, tickets, welcome/farewell, fun, leveling and more — is free. Optional premium features may exist, but essential server management is not locked behind a paywall.
What permissions does Ovels need?+
Permissions depend on the features you enable. Moderation can require Kick Members, Ban Members or Moderate Members; tickets can require channel management; simpler features may only need permission to send messages. You can narrow the bot's permissions in Discord after installation.
Do I need slash commands or a prefix?+
Both are supported. Slash commands are the recommended interface, while most commands are also available through the configurable text prefix.
Why is a slash command missing?+
Try restarting Discord first. If the command is still missing, confirm the bot was invited with the applications.commands scope and that the bot is present in the server.
How do I change the prefix?+
Open your server in the dashboard and update the prefix in the Overview/Basics settings. Slash commands are unaffected.
Can I self-host Ovels?+
The website is designed to share data with a separately running bot process. If you are self-hosting, follow the project's repository and deployment instructions and review its current license before deploying.
Why does text-to-speech fail to join voice?+
Check that the bot can Connect and Speak in the target voice channel and that the host network allows outbound UDP traffic. VPNs and restrictive firewalls can interfere with Discord voice connections.
How does the Music dashboard know which voice channel I'm in?+
The bot publishes your live Discord voice state to the shared database, and the dashboard reads it automatically, refreshing on load and every few seconds after. If it ever looks stale, use the voice panel's on-demand check. Full details are on the Music system page.
Why can't I control music from a different voice channel?+
Ovels keeps one active voice connection per server. If it's already playing elsewhere, join that channel or run /leave first — see how the single-connection model works.
Why did Ovels leave the voice channel on its own?+
It was empty for the full 120-second idle window. Playback actually pauses the instant the channel empties and resumes if someone returns in time — see what happens when a channel goes empty.
How do I report a bug?+
Use the support page to reach out directly, or run /bug in your server. Include the page or command involved, what you expected, what happened instead, and any non-sensitive error details.
